International Women’s Day

Worldwide, millions of people mark International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8. The day provides an important opportunity to reinforce commitment and action forging women’s equality, while also celebrating women’s achievements. Fighting the good fight continues all year and IWD sees the world step forward to support a campaign theme that unifies action in helping forge an inclusive world. Unfortunately: Every year 1.5 to 3 million girls and women die due to gender-based violence. Nearly half of women aged 15-49 in developing countries believe that a husband is justified in hitting or beating his wife under certain circumstances, while 287,000 women die each year during childbirth due to lack of proper care. At least 120 million girls and women have experienced genital mutilation, and more than 64 million women aged 20-24 worldwide have been married before the age of 18. Two-thirds of the world’s 775 million illiterates are women, and in 47 of the 162 countries available, girls are less likely than boys to finish primary school…

Each year the conversation grows, activity escalates, action increases, inclusive mindsets prevail – and we get closer to an equal world. Thank you to everyone who shares the vision, cares about equality, and takes action to make the world a better place. A challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change. So let’s all choose to challenge. How will you help forge a gender equal world? Celebrate women’s achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.
